Skillet's Fried Chicken Sammy
I remember walking into a crowded parking lot and ordering delicious street food from an airstream trailer over a decade ago during my early startup days. It has been great to see how Skillet have paved the way for many of the food trucks to jump into brick-and-mortar restaurants. It was sad to see them shut down their food truck this year. One of their tasty meals from the food truck was a fried chicken meal and that was not anything different when it came to their fried chicken sandwich.
The Skillet in my neighborhood is literally 3-blocks away from my house, so I moseyed on down and order their Fried Chicken Sammy ($16 includes a side). I really loved this chicken sandwich. The fried chicken thigh was super crunchy everywhere and I enjoy the crunch when you bite through it. The chicken itself was flavorful, where you could taste the fennel seed, and it was very juicy. The kale slaw was a departure of what I was expecting, but it did its job in cutting through the fried crunchiness. The pickled & charred jalapeƱo aioli layered onto the square potato roll rounded out the whole sandwich which was a nice bite to it all.
This was a well-round chicken sandwich, not too big, not too small. It was crunchy all-around, the bread was there to hold it all together, and the accompaniments of the slaw and aioli really helped enhance the flavors of the fried chicken itself. I would definitely come back again and grab this tasty sandwich. And I might even try out their spicy Nashville Hot Chicken Sammy next time.
